Ride-Hailing Philippines at a Glance

Ride-hailing in the Philippines now spans cars, taxis and app-based motorcycle taxis. Each app has a different strength, so this table shows where each one fits.

Tap Your Trip: Which App Should You Open?

Tap the situation that sounds like you. Each answer opens in place and works without any app download.

I commute daily inside Metro Manila on a motorcycle

Open Angkas, Move It and JoyRide and compare the upfront estimate for the same trip. Short hops are where a few pesos of base fare add up over a month. See our three-way comparison.

I live in a province or smaller city

Start with JoyRide and Maxim, which lists 32 Philippine cities. Coverage thins out fast, so check that drivers show up near you before relying on any app. Our provincial motorcycle taxi guide goes deeper.

I want a car and a predictable fare

GrabCar is the large all-round option, with taxis and the beta GrabTaxi Electric in the same app. Fares are shown before you book, though surge can raise them at peak hours.

I want to name my own price

inDrive lets you propose the fare and drivers accept or counter. It can pay off on longer trips and off-peak hours. Read inDrive vs Grab before you start bargaining.

I am traveling with four or five people

Compare a 6-seater fare instead of two bikes. Maxim lists a ₱55 base for a 6-seater in Davao, General Santos, Tacloban and Tagbilaran, but check the live quote.

It is raining or rush hour

Prices and wait times both rise. Open two apps, compare, and consider walking to a calmer pickup spot. GrabTaxi Electric cannot be flagged on the road, so booking through the app is the only way to ride one.

Fares and Fees: What to Expect

Fares move with distance, time of day and demand, so use the table as a rough guide. These are published estimates and starting rates, not guarantees.

Latest News: Rules, Fines and Pilot Program

Motorcycle taxis still run on a pilot program, with no permanent law. On November 3, 2026, The Philippine Star reported that the LTFRB fined Move It ₱555.7 million. The board says Move It had 73,321 active riders as of May against an authorized 17,746, so 55,575 were over the cap, at ₱10,000 each. Unpaid fines could lead to suspension or loss of accreditation, and the article did not say whether Move It appealed.

On October 12, 2026, BusinessWorld reported that the LTFRB denied two motorcycle taxi bids, reportedly GrabBike and RiderKo. For you, the takeaway is simple: rider supply and app availability can change, so keep a second app installed.

Ride Safety Checklist

  1. Match the plate number, vehicle and driver photo in the app before you get in.
  2. Share your live trip with a friend or family member.
  3. Wear the helmet and hold on properly on a motorcycle taxi.
  4. Keep chat, calls and payment inside the app.
  5. Screenshot the fare estimate so you can dispute a mismatch.
  6. Report problems through in-app support right after the ride.

How to Spend Less on Rides

Compare two apps for the same pickup and drop-off, since a ₱25 gap becomes ₱50 on a round trip. Avoid the first few minutes of a downpour or rush hour when surge peaks. Pay with a wallet like GCash or Maya when the app supports it, and watch for in-app offers. If an offer fails, our promo code not working guide explains why. Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best ride-hailing app in the Philippines?
There is no single winner. Grab leads for cars in big cities, motorcycle commuters compare Angkas, Move It and JoyRide, inDrive suits negotiators, and Maxim and JoyRide reach more provincial areas. Compare the upfront fare for your own trip.
Which ride-hailing app is cheapest?
It changes by route, hour and city. In one 2026 comparison of a roughly 10 km trip, estimates ranged from about ₱298 to ₱372 for Green GSM up to ₱560 for GrabCar, excluding surge and booking fees. Check two apps before you book.
Are motorcycle taxis legal in the Philippines?
They operate under a government pilot program, and there is no permanent motorcycle taxi law yet. The LTFRB caps how many riders each company may onboard, so rules and company status can change.
Can I pay for rides with GCash or Maya?
Many apps accept GCash, Maya or cards, and some allow cash. Payment options differ by app, service and city, so check the options shown at checkout.
How do I stay safe in a ride-hailing car or on a motorcycle taxi?
Match the plate number, driver name and photo before you ride, share your trip with someone, wear the helmet on a motorcycle, and keep the chat and payment inside the app.
Why is my fare higher than the estimate?
Surge pricing, waiting time, tolls and booking fees can change the total. Review the final breakdown in the app and contact in-app support if it looks wrong.
