How to use this calculator
- Type the amount you invested and the NAVPS you bought at.
- Enter today's NAVPS from your bank app or the fund report.
- Add the sales load or early redemption fee if your fund charges them.
- Read your units, current value, gain or loss and return percentage.
- Set a yearly return and the number of years to see a projected value.
How to read your UITF in plain numbers
A Unit Investment Trust Fund is a pooled investment offered by banks. You buy units at the NAVPS, and the value of your holding rises or falls as the NAVPS changes. The bank app shows the price, but it does not always show your gain in a clear way.
This calculator turns a few numbers into units, current value and return, so you can compare funds on the same basis. The projection lets you see the effect of time without promising any result.
Learn how funds compare in our UITF, mutual fund and time deposit guide, and build a regular habit with the monthly investing calculator.
How the UITF calculation works
- Units bought equal your amount, minus any sales load, divided by the NAVPS at purchase.
- Current value equals your units times today's NAVPS.
- An early redemption fee, if any, is subtracted to get what you would receive.
- The projection compounds the value at the yearly return you enter. It is an assumption, so test a low and a high case.
Tips to save more
- Match the fund risk level to when you need the money.
- Compare the total fees across funds, not just the headline return.
- Invest on a schedule instead of trying to time the market.
- Keep an emergency fund in cash before you invest.
