How to use this calculator
- Measure the packed box in centimeters and weigh it in kilograms.
- Choose the volumetric divisor and rounding used by your courier.
- Enter the first-kilo fee and the extra-kilo fee from the rate card.
- Add the declared value and the insurance and COD percentages if they apply.
- Read the charged weight and the total, then test a smaller box.
Why the size of the box can cost more than the weight
A pillow and a book can weigh the same on a scale but cost very different amounts to ship. Couriers charge for the space a parcel takes, so a large light box is billed as if it were heavier.
This calculator shows both weights and which one sets your price. It also tells you what the fee would be if you packed the same item in a box that matched its actual weight, which helps sellers protect their margin.
If you sell online, check your margin with the Shopee seller fee calculator, and for imports see the import cost calculator.
How the shipping estimate works
- Volumetric weight equals length times width times height divided by the divisor, and couriers charge the higher of that and the actual weight.
- The result is rounded up to the courier's step, which is often half a kilo or a full kilo.
- The delivery fee is the first-kilo fee plus the extra kilos at the additional rate.
- Insurance and cash-on-delivery fees are a percent of the declared value.
Tips to save more
- Use the smallest sturdy box that protects the item.
- Press out empty space and use flat mailers for soft goods.
- Compare at least two couriers for the same parcel.
- Declare the true value so insurance covers a loss.
