How to plan a trip budget that works
Most trips go over budget not because of one big cost but because of many small ones. Writing down every category before you book keeps surprises small and helps you decide where to spend and where to save.
This calculator adds up flights, hotel, food, transport, activities and shopping, then adds a buffer. It shows the total, the cost per person and the cost per day, which makes it easy to compare destinations and trip lengths.
Find deals on Klook, Agoda and Traveloka, then use the savings goal calculator to turn the total into a monthly amount.
How the trip budget is calculated
- Hotel cost equals the nightly rate times the number of nights, which is the number of days minus one, with a minimum of one night.
- Food equals per-person food times travelers times days. Transport equals the daily group amount times days.
- Flights, activities and shopping are per person, so they are multiplied by the number of travelers.
- The safety buffer is added on top of the subtotal, and the total is divided by travelers and by days for the per-person and per-day figures.
Tips to save more
- Book flights and hotels early for peak dates, and watch sale days.
- Compare activities across platforms before you buy.
- Share rooms and transport costs when you travel as a group.
- Set aside part of your 13th month pay for a year-end trip.
