Four numbers that frame Philippine online shopping in 2026

The Numbers Behind Philippine Online Shopping

Start with the base: a large, always-on audience. DataReportal's Digital 2026 report counts about 98 million internet users at the end of 2025 (83.8 percent of the population) and 95.8 million social media user identities in October 2025, per Marketing-Interactive and SunStar. The same coverage says 97.8 percent of users go online through a smartphone and that Filipinos watch over 20 hours of online video a week.

Market-size figures differ by firm. Mordor Intelligence estimates about USD 20 billion for 2026, IMARC about USD 31.7 billion, and ECDB USD 24.8 billion for 2025. Use the range, not a single number.

Payments: Digital Is Rising, Cash Is Not Gone

The BSP's 2025 report says digital payments hit 64.7 percent of retail payment volume, inside its 60 to 70 percent target for 2028. QR Ph processed 2.47 billion transactions worth ₱1.16 trillion and passed card usage for the first time, per BusinessWorld. Digital payment accounts grew 69.4 percent and merchant locations accepting them grew 36.3 percent.

Cash still matters online. Xendit's 2026 report found COD at about 23 percent of Philippine e-commerce value on its platform, the highest of six Southeast Asian markets surveyed, and QR and bank transfer volume up 198 percent from January 2025 to April 2026. About 33 percent of shoppers use COD less than a year ago, 12 percent prefer it regardless, and 41 percent of those who abandoned a purchase cited a missing payment method. Incentives were the top reason to switch. Coverage in Philstar says COD should stay above 20 percent through 2027.
